Peru · Cusco and the Sacred Valley

Andes Peru

Eight days between Cusco and the Sacred Valley. Five of them riding, almost all of it downhill.

Departures

No dates published yet.

Eight days, leaving from Cusco. Groups run from four riders and never go past seven, and the price per person drops as the group fills. If you're coming as a private group who already know each other, we'll set the date with you.

The trip

Eleven meters down for every one up.

8,639 against 757. It's the only ratio that describes this trip accurately: five riding days where the mountain is against you in one direction only, the good one.

Day two starts at the Lares pass, at 4,454 meters, on an Inca trail, and doesn't climb again until the square at Calca. Twenty-seven kilometers and 1,819 meters of descent in a single morning.

Each bar is how far you drop that day. Tap one, or hover it, to see what it's made of and mark that day in the itinerary.

Day by day

Eight days, five on the bike.

Arrival

We pick you up in Cusco after lunch and drive down to the Sacred Valley, an hour on the road. We build the bikes at the lodge and have dinner there.

02riding

Lares

A real Inca trail, from the Lares pass down to the town of Calca. You ride it twice: the first run to get used to the ground and the bike. This is the day that teaches you how riding works here.

03riding

Misminay · Moray · Maras

Two different routes in one day, with the agricultural terraces of Moray and the salt pans of Maras in between, and the Sacred Valley wide open behind.

04riding

The Other Side + Racchi

Two descents. The first from a pass above Moray, across every kind of ground. The second at Racchi, the one people remember for the views.

Rest day

Off the bike, or on it if that's what you want. Spa, kayak, Machu Picchu or another day of riding, all four at no extra cost.

06riding

Patacancha

The hardest route of the week: one of Peru's toughest enduro races is run here. You cross the ruins of Pumamarka and finish in Ollantaytambo. Lunch is at a family home in Willoc Alto.

07riding

Lamay

Three descents back to back, all of them into the valley. It's the longest day and the one everybody remembers: flowing sections, steps, technical ground. Huama is the best of the three.

Goodbye

Breakfast and transfer to the airport.

Before you book

This isn't your first week on a bike.

We recommend a full-face helmet, knee pads and elbow pads. We ask for new brake pads before you travel. We ride at 4,454 meters on the second day and drop 1,819 meters in one go. None of that is for someone still learning to brake.

If you're not sure about your level, message us and we'll tell you the truth. We'd rather lose a sale than ruin your trip.

You're travelling to Peru, and in the areas we'll be in there is almost no chance of finding specific parts for your bike.

So the bike arrives serviced from home. The full list is below.

What you have to bring
  • Full bike service before you travel
  • New brake pads
  • New tires, 2.4" and reinforced sidewall
  • Spare derailleur hanger
  • Tubes, patches and a pump
  • Any tools specific to your bike
  • A pack with room for water, food, layers and tools
  • Waterproof for mountain cold
  • Full-face helmet, gloves and goggles
  • Knee and elbow pads

The more of you there are, the less it costs.
